It was too painful. A second place here, a third place there. The groomsman of the group, "209" has always been wanting to make the show his own but just didn't seem to find the condition to do it. But, he always managed a good showing on the bench which is a sign of superior consistancy. I went to the show in Doswell, VA and there was "209". Alyssandra Young described his head as an "Anvil". A long broad head it is. He's precended by his son, Gary who received his Grand last year at just a little over a year. We can't tell you how happy we are that both are contributing so well to aviculture. "209" has already in his 4 years produced 10 babies with 3 hens! His babies explify his head, style and (overall) good looks. We are happy to get to show some of these prospects in the upcoming months.

Congrats goes to Phil Feret who bred "209" and his many siblings who also became Grands.

Leslie Judges Baltimore

My first judging assignment in Baltimore was a huge success! Bud Light, is now at another aviary to prove consistancy in breeding for Crystal Hopkins!

Cockatiel Co-Op Of Tennessee

K&L Aviary has started out the spring season with a blast. DHB (left) is father of Champions and many pointed birds and BB is the aunt of Lola and Grandchampion Manillow! They are being bred together to see what happens. Its a familiar breeding and is very close to what produced our Champion Latifa. We believe it may even be better. BB is a great, wide chested hen and DHB throw absolutely beautiful head packages. Put them together and you are bound to have some beautiful chicks!

On the right, we have Spottie (who just sired a beautiful lutino hen last year by Latifa). He is set up with One Feather (a 91j hen from part of the Royal Line). Bound to be colorful yet beautiful style in this pairing. We have one lutino that we are handfeeding right now. Both birds top ten benching birds in very major shows. Spottie went Second BIS at the Chester County show and the One feather has placed at the Specialty Show in 2006.

We have also purchased several beautiful rare cockatiels (dominant silvers, yellowcheeks, goldcheeks and fallows). All of our rares are EXCEPTIONAL. They have beautiful style and size and will be taking to the rare bench this year.

TWO HUGE SHOWS IN NC!!! 2009

In 2009, I am very excited that I will be involved with two different national shows. The first is in May (Memorial Day weekend) and will be the National Cockatiel Society Specialty Show. This year, RDCBS (Raleigh Durham Caged Bird Society) will be hosting the show and I have volunteered to be the delegate for the RDCBS show for the 8th year in a row. The Specialty Show is the NCS's own national show and has special awards and points awarded to those lucky few who make it on the top bench. The second show is the All American Show sponsored by Sandhills Budgerigar Society. I am a member of that society and will be working on the website during the next couple of weeks. The show will be held in Fayetteville, NC in September of this year and I will be posting more information about both shows as they get closer to fruition.

On to Phoenix, AZ....!

K&L Aviary puts up youngster at the Nationals

Getting on the National Bench is difficult enough but we were very fortunate to have done it this year with a young cockatiel. At only 10 months of age, our cinnamon cock is well on his way to becoming a grandchampion. We are so proud of our breedings for this year. Many have yet to see the show bench as we carefully have waited to show our birds at the peak of their beauty. We thank Josh Maple for seeing the beauty in this young bird. Again, for the second time this year, Lola (70L-501-05) has made it up on the show bench! Lola has been very stable on the show bench in the past year and she should be up around enough points for her Grandchampion soon!

Also on the bench was our Normal/wf under Gary Morgan. He gave him the Judges Award and 4th in show, explaining that he had the potential, on another day (he was getting a little tired) of being Best in Show! Don't we know it! He's been as far as 2nd in Show and has accumulated enough top bench points to be a Grandchampion! His son, our first bred baby of this year (70L-801-08) benched 8th in show! This is the first of our bred babies to go on the bench this year. Its very unusual to bench a baby in the spring season. He's a cinnamon cock and is the spitting image of his father (his mother is GrCH "Grey Goose's" daughter). Grey Goose was bred by Phil Feret and is a stunning example of a wf hen! Our favorite! Also as a first is a 2007 bred DHB grey hen. Although her tail was not quite yet grown in, Beyonce, did a great job and stunned everyone, as usual with her beautiful head and crest (a hallmark of DHB's babies). Her sister is nearing her Grandchampion status but is currently set up for breeding. We can't wait as she's been bred to "Spottie" a pointed Pearl/ Lutino cock. We're crossing our fingers for Lutino Pearls!

Once again, we've set up 18 of our best cockatiels to go through a summer breeding. We don't plan to breed again this fall so we've set up some wonderful birds. Special thanks to Josh Maple for sending us over two beautiful whiteface cocks. They are paired to our rare Goldcheeks and we'll expect goldcheeks for the fall season! The hen is from Ms. Julia Allen and she is a Gorgeous hen! The other GC is her baby! Josh really out did himself on his graciousness of these two wf cocks.

Have a great summer! BCV News

Well, after one failed breeding, Ginger's breed back has taken successfully! She's definately pregnant as we've heard the pups with a stethoscope and she's getting really big! We here at Bella Poms (our kennel name for our poms) are very excited and yet nervous about our pending arrivals.

Again, Ginger was bred to Stetson (Razzle Dazzles Heavenly Choir). Stetson sired the 12/2007 Eukanuba Pom Best of Breed, the 2008 Best Pom at Westminster and now the Best of Breed Pom at the 2008 Nationals (2 different poms). Depending on the number of poms, we'll probably be keeping them here or going into show homes, but we are excited and will put up pics soon at a separate blog. If your interested in any of the babies, please email me at huegerichl@nc.rr.com

For this reason, we will not be heading up to the Specialty Show at BCV. But, never fear, if you are intersted in cockatiels, please let me know. I have many of them for sale right now. I am reducing my stock dramatically to partake in another endeavor I'll be announcing very soon!

Wish us luck!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://klaviary.blogspot.com/2008/03/gingers-pups-expected-soon-bcv-news.html' title='Gingers Pups expected soon... Now, the fruits of their labor, comes to work... Taking care of almost twenty babies. Lots of Normal greys, as usual, are peppered into baby cages throughout K&L Aviary. Each has their daily feedings, head scratches, and kisses. Its nice to have so many babies around. Its been awhile since every fall I take a break for show season.

I'll be taking deposits for the babies. So, please email me if you are interested. One pair has given me 8 babies in one clutch so I'm very busy.

In other news, Ginger our Pomeranian is visiting Delaware to see her boyfriend. Bella Pomeranians (us too) is breeding Ginger to Stetson (a wonderful orange pom owned by razzle dazzle pomeranians. You can watch the Eukanuba Nationals to see Stetsons son compete this year in the Toy Group on February 2nd.

Let's cross our fingers for healthy pups!

K&L Aviary Happenings

Happy New Year to ALL!

I've been extremely busy with both NCS and K&L lately. K&L Aviary has had TERRIFIC production rates and lots of fertile eggs. I've been doing a lot of joint breedings here with Amber Penninston, Sherri Lewis, Josh Maple, Sue Smith, and Randy G. to name a few! But, a few of them are my own breedings. Right now, I'm feeding babies from DHB's grandson! These are now DHB great grandchildren and they are really showing promise. I let them clutch once and now they are down again and will be up in a few months.

Milli is back to nest, my HUGE pied hen. She was at "Uncle Phils" but now is home again! She's up with the one and only DHB! I can't wait for babies... Uncle Phil is babysitting some cockatiels for me and I'm so happy he has helped me along the way. A great Greeson bird is over there waiting to breed. He is the FATHER of the National Winner of 2006. Thanks to Phil for helping me and for Julia Allen for selling me such a fine cock! His outcross will do us good! I also have another pure breeding of Greeson that I will be outcrossing. He's from a Hogan/Charmin pairing and is 100% Greeson from Julia. He'll be going up with Champion 70L-528-05. She's a strong bodied, good crested hen. He's got bulk head!

My favorite and best pairing will be whiteface this year. I've got babies from a 16P Grandchampion Wf daughter paired to a normal/wf cock (with huge major pts). This normal cock/wf went 2nd BIS in two different shows last year at just a little over a year of age! He's the full sibling to a wonderful n/wf hen. Speaking of, Amber Penninston loaned me the full sister (and one of the only siblings that is a hen). She's up with a great pearl cock of Kathy Shorts. Babies are in the nest as I type!

With all these babies, the K&L Aviary website will be changing a lot. I'm taking pictures at this moment of some of the birds in the aviary to add to my website.

If you are looking for a special pet, a breeding bird, or even an exhibition cockatiel, let me know.

I have lots of linnies going to nest. Please email me for availability at
klaviary@showtiels.com

Until later,
Leslie

K&L welcomes new additions

K&L has made some great purchases. With Mapleleaf Avairies, K&L has bought some great exhibition budgie stock from a Champion Breeder with the ABS. Special thanks to Keith and Paige Gover who have been so generous to us these past few months. Their stock is AMAZING!! We are looking forward to getting these guys going and we have already set up six pairs of pure English bloodlines. Many are from European imports and the top lines here in the US. We'll be posting pictures of these lines as soon as we can get a shot of them.

Another new addition to K&L Aviary is MORE lineolateds. K&L has purchased key blue and lutino lines along with adding on to our green lines. Winning a 10th in show under 83 entries and a 2nd in show with 81 entries, we are very proud of Isabelle. She has a one year old son now who will take her place and try to follow in her footsteps. In 2006, Isabelle was bred to the half sibling of the 2006 National Winner! We kept back her son and he reminds us of her.

Thanks to all the judges and exhibitors who cheered her on this year! She placed at Raleigh earlier this year under Gary Morgan and I knew she could get the few points she needed. Isabelle is now retired from showing (her cheekspot color goes crazy when she breeds) and she will be set up for breeding from some great stock that we have purchased along the way. Isabelle's younger brother (a great pied/Lutino) is also set up with a HUGE hen from Phil Feret. She is from the Grandchampion Lutino Pearl that is also the FULL sibling of the National Winner of 2006! Again, thanks to all!

K&L goes to Rhode Island

Between doing the NCS Journal, working for the International Parrotlet Society, raising two amazing children, and (oh yeah) being a wife, I managed to get some time away to head to Rhode Island. Special thanks to my drivers: Sue Smith and Josh Maple. Without you, I couldn't have made that LONG trip. We bench on two different benches and we are proud of our accomplishments both on the bench and in the sections. K&L Aviary was up on the top of every section and we are so proud and honored to be competing in such STIFF competition. We learned that we still have a lot of work ahead of us. Those trips are needed sometimes. We are refocusing just a little bit. We're working on obtaining some top stock from several big exhibitors and for that reason we are downsizing (plus puppy poms around the house have caused us to slow the breeding down a little in anticipation!). Please inquire about our sales list. We have several nice hens and cocks available!

Thanks to all who have offered help and encouragement along the way. Bella in Italian means "beautiful" and over the past 14 years, we've fallen in love with our poms. We have recently purchased a gorgeous female, Ginger (Weeheart's Touch of Spice) who will be bred to a great Champion stud, Dustin who has multiple best of breed winnings and group placements! We are so lucky to have had the pomeranian folks take us under their "paws". Poms are wonderful dogs and their style is evident in the show ring. They are certainly a crowd pleaser. The picture of Ginger is at almost a year of age in her full coat. There is optional grooming that is done by some for show but many prefer the natural coat. We'll be posting pics to our new website http://www.bellapoms.com/ in the near future. Breeding by us is always done carefully and meticulously. Its the future of the breed/species that we enjoy working towards. Ginger's beauty is only surpassed by her bountiful licks!

Update: Ginger was bred to BISS Can/Am Champion Razzle Dazzle's Hat Dance (aka Stetson). We thank Judy, Stetson's breeder and owner, for helping us along the way! Thanks!!! Puppies are due soon. We had a great time! K&L benched three different birds. A great normal cock, a pearl hen, and a Isabelle (who is very close to her Grandchampionship status!) Isabelle will be down for breeding until she can get her few points. This will make K&L very close to obtaining our first bred grand. We also have two cockatiels very close behind her in their grandchampionship endeavors. Latifa will hopefully be in condition this fall to get her points. She is now breeding with Manilow (a cp male) and I am excitingly waiting for eggs.

DHB has fertile with Chic George Eliot. We can't wait as they will be hatching very soon! We have set up some of the best pairings in the past week! We have a HUGE pearl baby from 904 and DHB's daughter! Its one of the largest babies we've produced. We also have the third BIS hen from Raleigh up with "Queens nephew" (a Kathy Short bred cock). We'll be showing pics of our pairs on this page this weekend.

For sale:
K&L is selling three babies. Very sweet, handfed babies. Two are siblings. A cinnamon pearl pied and a lutino hen. They are from my pied line mixed with Judy McElveens large stuff. They are very nice and would make great breeders or pets. The last one is still handfeeding and is a pied from Chicken George's Daughter (shanequa) and our pet DYC "Bingo". This was bred by my children and will have their band on it. The cinnamon pied is $125, the lutino is $125 and the pied is $100.

Lastly, we have one green/blue lineolated. We'd love to trade for a linnie or he'll be $200.

Raleigh is gone but many memories were made. It was, so far, the largest show of the year! The SPBE show was 60 plus also!!! Time flies when you are having fun! We've been to four shows already this year and managed to get our many birds on the top bench (even though we have a crest pulling juvenile or two who has devastated the crests of our main flight!). But, none the less, even leaving some of most coveted tiels at home, we've managed a decent showing. We hope the fall will prove better for K&L as we have some great breedings out of CC that we want to show off. They were born the 1st of January, going through their molts and they are really looking great. CC's Dad, DHB, has also managed to throw down more magnificent gene when bred to another hen this year. We have him set up with a great "Chicken George daughter" (we affectionately call 'Chicken George Eliot' after the famous victorian writer as we were unsure if "georgie" was a girl or a boy when she was growing up. Low and behold this hen, with a big head and a bigger even chest, may be even better for DHB then his previous mates. We are eventually going to establish this line with careful breeding. We see consistancy in all the babies yet they are never quite done, are they?

Last year, K&L did some careful purchases and again, this year, we've bought three great birds. Two from our beloved Kathy Short, who's birds grace this page, and one in the works with Sherri Lewis. Kathy's are for linebreeding, Sherri's for outcross (SIZE!). Phil also was gracious enough to sell us a normal/wf cock and while he was being put 2nd in show (less than a year old) in Virginia, his sister was benching Best in Show at the specialty!

The Raleigh show is coming up this weekend (memorial day) and I'm a delegate once again this year. K&L Aviary has made major purchases in our parrotlets and lineolateds. We will be concentrating on providing our customers with the quality of these pets. We will be working on that website as time allows but... Volunterism is always high on K&L's list and both Karl and I are avid volunteers to non profits. I'm in the midst of getting the NCS Journal back on track and redesigned, Karl is working diligently on a display for IPS. I have also accepted a position on SPBE which was brought forth to me by Dr. Al Decoteau. SPBE (Society of Parrot Breeders and Exhibitors) is a great parrot society.

Hope all is going well in your cages!

Lineolated Parakeets in the Nest!

We have five lineolated babies all in one nest! K&L Cockatiels is looking to trade some of these guys for unrelated stock. Possibilities include Cobalts, Dark Greens, Greens and Turquoise (sky blue). All greens will be split blue. I'll be getting DNA's on all these guys in about 4 weeks. Let's cross our toes and hope they all make to the weaning cage!

In cockatiel news, we have set up seven new cockatiel pairs. While we'll be doing a few switches in the next few weeks, we hope to have plenty of babies by early summer! We've already banded close to 30 babies this year and have kept close to half due to their quality and our focus back to our lines. We have quite a few pretty pieds and we've also set up our beautiful SLYC hen we purchased from Linda Arnett this year. Still alive and kicking but much older now. This 1994 hen was bought from Keith Reimer, deceased NCS Judge, exhibitor, and birdie buddy. He got me into cockatiels! Although I think Spice has had a good life, in the past months she's shown signs of aging. I will always love my Spice and we've spent the last couple of months with some good times together. :). She is pictured here at 5 years of age. She's now 13 years.

Update: 6/2007

We lost Spice to liver failure this month. Our linnie eggs are hatching soon! Our 12 month old green/blue hen has decided to get it right on only her first time laying. We have two pairs on fertile eggs. Anyone interested in trading stock, let me know. I won't be selling any from these pairs yet. I would love to get very cobby linnies as I find them very stunning. Greens, blues, or lutinos are fine!

On the cockatiel front, almost all of our early 2007 babies are weaned now. We are looking forward to very exciting pairings. We have purchased some birds from Linda Arnett and are going to put in a good amount of Greeson to our pairings this year. We've started up the year with some great style and size in our first greeson cock, now we are looking at expanding on to a larger line. The pearl/pd cock we are looking forward to is from a Charmin/Hogan son and a 54/16 offspring hen! He's going to be a good line for us to dabble in! I am also breeding an old line from Carl Helton into my birds from a bird I have partnered with Josh Maple to breed. I've got him set up with a great cinnamon pearl hen from Kathy Short.

Hope to see you some of you on the exhibition trail. I'll be keeping up North most of the year with shows in NC, VA, MD, , CO,and RI in the plans. Next week is the Bird Clubs of Virginia show with two of my favorite judges: Lee Horton and Phil Feret. Both are very knowledgeable and always a joy to watch judge. Next its back to PCBS (Virginia Beach) to see my SPBE guru Al Decoteau "Dr. Al" and Sabrina Hull judge two cockatiel shows. Then, its back to my own club, RDCBS, to see Pat Tucker and Gary Morgan. If you would like more information about the RDCBS show, please let me know and I'll forward you on more info (Memorial Day weekend). Its always a huge time and always proves to be one of the largest shows in the country.

SPBE will have shows at PCBS, RDCBS, and BCV also. You can contact Julie Mitchell for the VA Shows (she's the VA show extraordinaire). When I first started exhibiting, VA had no shows and since Julie has come along.... She's been awesome for the state of VA

On other news, we'll be posting new pics on the website for our 2006 purchases. We have a normal grey male from Phil Feret who is a beautiful sibling to a huge normal hen that he entered into the National Show at just weaning. Our normal is turning out very nicely and we hope to have him paired soon to a great wf cinnamon pointed hen. We also purchased a lutino out of the sister of the 2007 National Winner. Its a HUGE hen and was the biggest bird in my aviary at just 10 weeks of age! She's going to be beautiful and I'll be pairing her up with some of my lutino line (swartz line)

Hope all of your breedings are successful!

Karl and Leslie

Late Winter News

Lutino Pearl Hen from DHB daughter

Pearl Male from same pairing

I am looking forward to having quite a few more websites up at Showtiels.com. Both are up and coming exhibitors in novice and have some great quality of birds. Lisa is in Indiana and Alex is in Arizona (Phoenix area).

At K&L Aviary, we are adding a few more tiels to our flock. We have a shipment of birds coming soon from Linda Arnett at OCTiels from many of the top exhibition lines! We are very happy to get some of these birds and thank Linda for her generosity. Linda has also donated birds to the RDCBS Cockatiel Show as fundraising. These birds will give NCS exhibitors opportunity to obtain some great stock!

K&L is weaning some great cockatiels and I will get pics of them soon. I will try to have a booth at the Raleigh Durham Caged Bird Society show where these babies, and more, will be looking for homes. I do have several of you on a waiting list, so keep a look out on the yahoogroup for more information on what is coming available. My website is also a great place to find up to date information when birds come available. Many of these birds are too soon to tell whether they will be for sale yet, but I'm will be able to take specific orders when they are around 6 weeks.

The first two pictures are from JA Bro and from CC. They are third generation K&L Aviary and we are getting very close to the look we want. The last normal is a beautiful normal split to pied from DHB and a Pearl hen that I bought from Calico Aviaries in 2005. I have high hopes for this clutch since the 2005 clutch from DHB did very well on the show bench and one made its Champion before it was even a year of age! These guys are going to be even more stylish as the hen is very stylish! She is sired from a Linda Greeson bred male and her mother is bred from Robert Spicnall. I was very happy to get such a wonderful hen from Calico, and her and her sister (residing at Love Tiels) have both placed on the bench this year!

I'll keep the pictures coming in the next couple of posts

Mailing List Now Available

K&L Aviary has started a new mailing list. While we have decided not to go to some of the shows that are further away, K&L is planning on going to the NCS Specialty show in Puerto Rico this year. Its a good excuse to go to Puerto Rico and see some of our PR cockatiel buddies.

K&L is also starting up the planning of the RDCBS show. We'll have more information in the future but we are planning for a great Southeast Regional Cockatiel show! We'll have new rules and regs put up on the RDCBS site when they come available. Last year, RDCBS had the largest cockatiel show in the country and won the nomination of being the NCS Specialty Show.

If you have any questions about any shows in the area, please email us, and we'll get you started in the right direction.

In other news, Karl has taken on the position of Membership Representative for the IPS. IPS has been both of our passion for the past year and next year, as President, we are going to be working on some new projects. We'll also be putting up our pairs in a few months and should have some babies in the late spring and early summer. We are getting back into pacifics and will be showing some of our babies this year in SPBE and IPS. We will also be showing our Jardine which is now turning 3 years of age this year!

Next posting, I'll be posting some baby pictures to get you guys excited about this years breedings.

Leslie and Karl

Birds, Birds, Birds

K&L Aviary is happy to report the beginning of their spring season. Yes, its winter but these guys will be ready for the spring season to find happy, loving homes. We have 14 pairs set up which is a K&L Aviary first! To date, all eggs are fertile which is quiet the accomplishment! Our show season starts in April and we are hoping to have weaned birds at that time. We have quite a bit on our agenda for shows with the Specialty show in Puerto Rico, BCV in Virginia, and RDCBS Regional Show in NC! We will be at all these shows. NCS shows are open to the public and I hope NCS members and non members alike will be at the shows to show their cockatiels. For more information on exhibition, go to www.cockatiels.org . They have lots of information on how to condition birds. You can also go to my website at www.showtiels.com for my articles on exhibition!

I will be posting pictures of babies as they are coming out of the nest at www.showtiels.com/klaviary . You can go to my website and put deposits on birds as they come available for sale. From time to time I will post how many are in the clutch and you can reserve a baby from the available babies in that clutch! I will not be starting that list right now, but if you see something from my pairs page, you can certainly email me about their status.

Merry Christmas from our cockatiel flock to yours!

K&L Aviary

More K&L Additions and Breedings

We've added a few key birds to K&L Aviary this past year. Two birds are from outstanding lineage. We purchased two birds from Kathy Short by the same mother (a Champion Pied hen). Her sister is the one on our banner and her other sister is the mother of "Sunburst" bred by Josh Maple. We have two half siblings from Kathy's champion pied and they have all the qualities of their mother and more! We are hoping to bring these in to many lines including our Lutino line which is in its infancy.

We also purchased birds from Phil Feret this year. Phil has given us the sires and dams of some of our top winning cockatiels. His birds have even proven on the show bench for us giving us several Champions, Grandchampion, and major pointed cockatiels! We have been very specific in our purchases to help us improve the quality in our lines. Breedings include Grandchampion parents, siblings, and even National Winners.

Hope to have pictures of these excellent birds as they come into condition. If you have more interest in our cockatiels, please visit www.showtiels.com/klaviary to view our current availability. We have 12 pairs set up and of those pairs, we have 8 active nestboxes!

Special thanks to Kathy and Phil for selling K&L Aviary great quality cockatiels.

New Additions to K&L!

We have been very excited about this new addition to K&L Aviary! We have purchased a few very special birds that we will be announcing soon. The first bird is named "One Feather". When we bought 'one feather' (named for the one dark feather in her crest), we had already fallen in love with her. We had seen her at past shows and we couldn't resist her personality and great looks. We have introduced her into our pied line and next we will introduce her into our lutino line. She's a pearl pied from Maple Leaf Aviaries from "King" who is the father of all his "Royal Family". We love having her here and she'll be a huge asset to our breeding program (already giving us some great big pied babies). Thanks Josh! Our wonderful Normal hen, 70L-588-05, has been the third K&L Aviary Cockatiel to get her Champion status in her first year of showing! She is right at a year of age and we are so proud of her.

Velcro, who has been accumulating points for quite a few years now, showed very well also. He's also a K&L bred cockatiel. His reward was being set up to a wonderful WF Cinnamon Pearl Pied hen who just reached maturity and is now ready to breed. This will be another third generation pied on our ever improving pied line. We will be breeding fourth generations this fall also!

Baltimore MD.... We got Awesome points and he's now almost a Grandchampion. He's a few points shy! He's going into condition so we should have him as a Grand by year end. Then he'll be bred this fall for some good spring show hopefuls. I went to Montgomery without my hens (long story) but they got a nice needed break and will be out in full force in Tennessee. Hopefully they will keep their feathers on their head!

Isabelle is down from breeding for the time being and should be back in condition for some late fall shows. She has a lot of orange on her from hormones and will need some good R&R. She sure is getting it. Her progeny is doing great and should be ready for the spring show season. I don't like to show babies as they are so unpredictable with their molts.

The six pack mom is now on eggs with Champion 55G-1035-96 (affectionately known as 1035). We hope to have babies from them very soon. Should make a great breeding and he really likes her! The offspring will be lutino males and female and some pearls, normals, and cinnamons (maybe) too!

We hope to see you guys at the show. We are very excited about our fall show season. I'm still working on pictures from Rhode Island and Montgomery. I met a lot of novice cockatiel exhibitors and we wish all of them lots of LUCK and success! I just didn't believe it would turn out so nicely. The hen is a cobby hen. Pearl pied. She has a good head and body but is lacking anything in between (a neck). She comes from two Grandchampions. Her mother is 2004 Grandchampion "Brittany" from Keith Reimers "Fabulous Four" pied line. Her mother is also from 2006 Grandchampion 16P-143-03. He is a great pearl pied/wf from Philip Feret's pied line. He has carried in some nice size to babies.

The male of these babies is a normal/cinnamon. I love this male as he has a great crest that soars where most crests have not soared before. Again, this male is from "Brandy" from Keith Reimer's "Fabulous Four" pied line and is the full sister to the above "Brittany". His father is a male owned by Ree Maple named "Hawk". Hawk had style and head and gives this to his son. I then linebred for Keith Reimers pied hoping to get really good pieds. I was surprised to see that the pied line was not unbelievably marked but they all have good size on them. The oldest baby (a normal around 8 weeks of age) is VERY nice and should do well both as a breeder and as a show prospect.

If you are interested in this line, please send me a line at klaviary@showtiels.com. We are looking forward to another great fall show season. We are not as active during the summer but we do have a few babies, some nestlings, and some great pairs set up. We are going to start construction really soon on a new aviary. Right now, the plans have been finalized and we are going to be pulling together the last material quotes so we can get items in and get them done. We feel that separating our breeding cockatiels from our resting flock will get us better production and will help us better manage our birds. We'll post pictures on the progress.

The picture to the left is one of our first lutino babies from Isabelle. She has also produced pearl and pied for us! Congratulations to Karen A. who has reserved a wonderful lutino male from this pairing.
